Disasters
Natural disasters and other large–scale disasters … what is the federal gov't supposed to do?
"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have."
– various speakers … used by Barry Goldwater in his presidential bid
"Though the people support the government; the government should not support the people." – Glover Cleveland
"There is more human need than resources to address them all." – Mike Kolls
Milton
Gov DeSantis, kudos to you! What an example of responsible state leadership. Governance must be local and then
escalate if local authorities are overwhelmed. Kudos … again (10/10/24).
Smokehouse Creek
As the Smokehouse Creek wildfire raged thru CD–13 (Feb '24) I wrestled with what my response would be if
I was their US Representative.
- I would NOT visit as fire ravaged; first responders need to do their job
- I would NOT visit to survey the damage; leadership is NOT a photo op
- I would NOT demand immediate FEMA relief; people THERE know what needs to be done
- Besides, we do NOT need your rules and red tape
Local
Disasters short of
foreign invasion are best addressed by the people on–site, at the disaster.
Who else knows what needs to be done? Who else but
neighbors are generous enough to offer help that is truly needed?
Eliminate FEMA
As part of the effort to restore duties effectively administered by each Sovereign State it is time to dismantle FEMA
and its red tape. The 20,000 plus FEMA employees can be hired by the Sovereign States for disaster planning and
disaster relief efforts, locally.
