Dobbs v Jackson
Individual Choice
Most everything in life can be properly handed by the person confronted by the decisions of life. A great majority of issues only affect the person involved. Each of us has the best solution for ourself and our family. Every. Single. Time. When there is NO effect upon another person, we are the sole arbitrator. Period.Yet, when we do impact our neighbor, we cannot harm them when it benefits us. For an extreme example, I cannot manufacture a product and then dump the toxic sludge on my neighbor's property. Of course, smaller harms must be remediated.
When my actions only affect me, nobody has any influence upon me.
If Asked
Abortion is a matter of personal conscience. It is NOT a decision to be made casually, nor without considering the conceived child. If asked, I would counsel a young woman to consider adoption … and yet, … respect her decision.
Within Society
We should NOT harm others that live around us. Their pursuit of happiness is as valid as ours. We can fulfill our wants positively by working with others. Most of these collaborations/contracts are win-wins.
Gov't
Govt's role is to curb our harmful actions towards fellow citizens by imposing negatives for actual trespasses. Our justice system is based on the occurrence of a real transgression/infraction. The damage must be real; it cannot be an imagined or theoretical damage.
My Point?
The federal gov't should NOT rule on social issues. Individuals MUST be left alone to make the decisions of life … those that have NO consequences on neighbors. When there is impact on neighbors, we have the established court system to determine a remedy.The US Supreme Court overstepped its authority in issuing Roe. It should never have tried to address a social issue. Social issues are reserved for The People and the Sovereign States per Amendment IX, as defended by The Federalist Papers.
The Reality
Abortion will occur after 6/24/22. This difficult decision of conscience will continue.Some may have to travel to a neighboring state. Some may seek an illegal procedure. Others may engage in state-level debate to change state laws. This should be a process of engaging in and influencing governance and NOT mere politics. Political rhetoric helps no one.
IMO, the number of abortions performed will NOT change.
The Leaker
The leaker violated the sanctity of the Supreme Court and its processes. As a result, the leaker should be banned from employment in the Supreme Court of the United States and the processes surrounding it.
SCOTUS
Thank you for deliberating based on The Law. It is reassuring that political pressure did NOT affect the Dobbs decision. The decision in the leaked draft was NOT changed by social tumult.The Judicial branch is operating constitutionally. I wish the same for the Legislative and Executive branches.
